If you read my last post then you already know that I have embarked on a creative project with several of my photography friends. If you missed it... you can go back one post to catch up. This is dress number two in our "Traveling Dresses" project and it comes from my friend Dawn of Dawn Sela Photography in Beacon, New York. Dawn's dress is actually a tulle skirt that she created and paired with a long sleeve lace top. I chose to pair the skirt with a different top that I pulled from my wardrobe rack. I wanted a younger look for my model Abby. Also, I was photographing this look outside in one of my new outdoor shooting bays and did not want to put Abby in long sleeves because of the almost unbearable heat and humidity! I chose Abby for this look because I wanted a dancer for this skirt. I also knew that Abby's coloring would be perfect for this creamy peach colored skirt. And, because I love to share my clients stories... I wanted to share a little about Miss Abby.
I've been photographing Abby for several years. I've done her head shots as well as photographed her as a member of the competition dance team at The Factory Dance Studio, so I already knew I wanted Abby for this project. Abby is another one of these gifted youngsters who knows what they want and have the descipline and tenacity to work towards their goals at a young age. Abby is an upcoming Freshman and recently traveled to New York City for a three week dance intensive at The Institute for American Musical Theatre. Abby was awarded a full scholarship after auditioning at a dance convention in Kentucky. During her three week stint in NY, she danced for 8 hours each day under the instruction of teachers who are currently working on Broadway. Abby said that she learned a lot from her teachers which also included IAMT co-founders Andrew Drost and Michael Minarik. In addition to her intensive dance schedule, she was fully emersed into the professional side of the industry. Her dance instruction included learning pieces from the Broadway shows Wicked, Spongebob, Margaritaville and 42 Street. And of course, you can't spend three weeks in NYC without seeing a few Broadway Plays... which she did!! When I asked her what her favorite part of the trip was, Abby replied, "My favorite part was getting to know the city and the industry enough to know that I want to move to a big city and pursue a career in this industry!" Abby is a talented dancer and I have no doubt about her ability to reach her goals!
I'm already planning for next month's traveling dress and am contemplating who I want to call upon to wear it!!! In the mean time, If you are a current high school senior, you may want to take a look at my model/muse senior session! Details can be found on my Senior Experience page. I have three different senior sessions available this year and am currently accepting bookings for fall 2018 and spring of 2019!!
